Chip off the old block

Block1

I promise not to give you a block-by-block account of this quilt. That might get a bit dull. And at this rate, it might take a while. But I did want to share the fact that I have actually sewn up the first block. It's not perfect, but I am really enjoying the process of log cabin piecing. Cutting and playing around with the strips was even quite relaxing! I don't have a firm grand plan for this quilt. I'm trying to use fabrics from my stash, so many of the prints I have only in small quantities. I'd love to just join one block to the other, but if it looks too busy/crazy, then I might run some white sashing bewteen each block. We'll see. In any case, according to my rough calculations, I have at least 29 more of these chaps to complete before I reach the desired size. Cripey!

Wow -- it looks awesome so far! I love the fabrics you chose. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

I love it !! For me, the fun of quilting is putting the fabric together, so to see how you have pieced it is great. I always ask myself "Does it sing?" when I put pieces of fabric together, and if it doesn't "sing" I keep trying until I find a combination that does. And sometimes the most ordinary fabrics look great together. And I did laugh at the 29 to go ... Story of my life.

great job! It's fun isn't it? I've probably got that many to go too!

Oooo your first block is looking good! Love the balance between the green and pink fabrics. Clever of you to throw some white in there (amdidst the pink) so later if you do decide you need sashings it will all tie together as though you meant it to be like that from the outset!!

Really pretty block - vou've got a good eye for colour and pattern - the quilt's going to be great!

I really love the colours and fabrics, so it's looking good to me! I've never tried any kind of quilting or patchwork type sewing... I think I'd get too sctressed about choocing the right colours and patterns etc.

My very first quilt top (still not quilted!) was a log cabin; reading your post reminds me of how much fun it was to make! Your block is has the perfect mix of prints, stripes, and dots! I especially love the 30's green fabric--are those bears taking a walk?

Log cabins are so fun, and a great way to use up your stash! I just finished the blocks for a baby quilt, and while I only needed 12, it was tedious! I do love your color scheme!

Love the colors, and I think the white sashing will look so nice in between if you do it. I am so envious of you quilters!

I love the randomness of it, it looks wonderful.

this is going to be gorgeous!

Good job! That isn't boring at all taking about your process! Keep us posted :)

Very pretty!

SO adorable. It's so funny how a few of the same fabrics turn up again and again on all different blogs/projects :)
I am jealous of everyone's beautiful quilting mania. I need to embrace all of the rogue quilting going on, and make at least a darn pillow.

looks great!

Consider black sashing instead of white...I know it seems counter-intuitive, but black can really make a scrappy quilt pop. At least, I think so. This is truly lovely, by the way.

That colour combo is fantastic!

Beautiful! Rock on the next 29..
Take my advice - don't hand quilt it either :)

Really like that fabric, very much. Another 29 huh? That's the problem with quilts, they're so much *work*!

I adore it completely! So incredibly beautiful! I think you should show us each and every step of all the other 29 and then show us the assembly and then every day you should take a picture of it when it is finished simply so that we can look at it each and every day as it ages!!!

I love the dots !!

I love it already! It's totally going to be worth it!!!!

I definately want to see a block by block account of this! It looks wonderful! I can't wait to see the next 29!

Very nice--can't wait to see how it comes out!
