WIP

I read a quite a few knitting blogs, and it seems that the abbreviation WIP (work in progress) is fairly common in knit blog vernacular. I think us crafters should embrace the term, too... I really enjoy reading about what people are in the process of making. There used to be a show your desk friday - anyone interested in starting up something like that again? So, in that spirit, a snapshot of my desk today:

Bunnypiles1
1. Piles of cut out toys (these ones are bunnies). Alison has written before about the little piles she makes, and I can so, so relate. I also love to pile. These are for a wholesale order I am working on for 12 bunnies, cats and monkeys (yes, 12! Given that each toy takes me about 3-4 hours, it's going to take me quite some time to amass that many).

Newfabric2
2. New fabric. Purchased last week after both Audrey and Matt were sick and everything in our house was breaking down as part of some much needed (ahem) fabric therapy.

Dollinprogress3
3. A doll I am working on for Audrey. She (doll) has been sitting here body-less for almost a month now because I'm feeling very lukewarm about her. Not sure if this lass will ever be finished. I casually draped the gingham trim over her unsewn neck because headless dolls are such a creepy spectacle. Don't really think it helps decrease the creep, though.

Mindy4
4. Not exactly a work in progress as something that I'm staring at with much happiness. A bundle of wonderful fabric scraps (most of them much larger than scraps) sent as part of a swap with lovely Mindy of Juniper. Thanks so much again, Mindy, having this land on my doorstep yesterday was this fabric lover's dream come true.

Oohh.. ahh.. I loved seeing that picture of your desk, all those pretty colours & patterns working together, oh I get so happy over the little things.

There should definitely be more WIP postage in the blogworld.. and you know what else? A Flickr group.. care to start one? ;)

As much as I love a good pile up and displays of half made crafting goodness, the abbreviation WIP just flings me right back to working for a certain big fat budget fabric store designing their catalogues and having to sit and discuss why Ive laid pages out the way I have...oh really?

But in saying that I would joing a flickr WIP group quicksmart!

I'm all into piles too - problem is I seem to have quite a few piles which are slow to becoming finished products! As to the doll - I think she is really lovely - I would like to see her with body and outfit.

"WIP" is also common parlance in the writing world, so I was surprised to see you refer to it as a knitting term! (I'm a fairly new reader.)

Your dolls are adorable, and are inspiring me to work on my own.

I love your work! and I love the ideia of "WIP"

Would I have to tidy up my desk before taking photos? ;-)

I'm a bit messy when I work and every now and then must tidy up before I go on but if you'd like to start a show your desk tradition, I'll join you.

Oh, I love the little doll...you must give her a body! She's precious.

I make piles of fabric for my next projects too. In fact, I think there are about 10 piles right now!
I think the doll is cute and not at all creepy.

i enjoy reading WIP blogs, too. the show-your-desk-friday sounds lovely!

I love looking at other people's piles almost as much as I like making them. ;) I'll share my piles on Friday this week. (And they won't be nearly as tidy as your beautiful piles!)

Oooh the doll (head) is adorable, and the gingham! She needs a big Peter Pan collar or a great big bow around her neck in that fabric. Sure you put it on there to reduce the creep but it's perfect.

Good luck with all those bunnies! Audrey is so sweet!

Oh, I love seeing your beautiful piles. I'll try to share my messy piles on Friday!

Wow, your desk is really clean. You most certainly wouldn't want to see mine (well, maybe you would; I think it would make a lot of people feel better about their desks by seeing mine).

You make lovely bunnies, by the way.

...becareful or you will be frogging projects ;) your right, there are certain hobby slang! LOVE your piles! Piles are good! I love to pile books.

I'd show my craft table, but it's so overcrowded that I'm beginning to suspect that freaky scary fabricy things are growing in there without my help. Eeek!

desk Friday is a lovely idea, I'm in! And the disembodied doll head is far from creepy - she's adorable!

(well, OK, I just read that back and "disembodied doll head" does sound a little creepy! But she *looks* adorable!)

ah, but your piles are so lovely. right now my piles consist of junk mail, random lists and print outs. no fun at all.

So glad I'm not the only pile person :) They're quite comforting - sitting looking and dreaming about possibility.

Well, the head is adorable! Had you not said anything,. I would have thought is was a jaunty scarf around her neck. She looks French to me! Loaded with Amelie charm and whimsy!

oh, you really should finish the doll for audrey - her head is super cute (even without a body!)

I love looking at people's wips. Almost as much as I prefer to look at artist's sketches than the finished paintings. It is the first impetus to create that catches my imagination and draws me in. It is the unfinished, imperfect piles full of hope that inspire me.
I love the process. It is beautiful and sometimes mesmering, always has hard points and some triumph. Creating really is universal.

Yeah for WIP's! I love them but feel absolutely positive that those piles are perhaps the most adorable WIP's EVER!!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that Pia arrives today. My adoration of your creations is not a WIP it was complete a long time ago!

That doll is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'show your desk Friday' would perhaps force me to clean up every Thursday ;-)
Call me 'pile it' because that's what I do... those piles are so nice to let you dream about all the projects you'll never start. I have lots of them.
Great idea to initiate these WIPs!
