her name was lola, she was a showgirl

Lolamonkey

Coco

A couple of monkeys for the next shop update, finished today. Lola, because that Barry Manilow song popped into my head when I was sewing the the ric-rac on her dress - it looked kind of festive. Sorry if you can't get that blasted song out of your head now, either! Also, Coco, her slightly less outgoing sister, in blue. They just need a couple of pom-poms for their tails and they'll be ready.

I think I have a potential new habit brewing. I've been lurking about ebay recently for vintage milk glass kitchenware. So beautiful. Much of it is a bit scary & lacey for my liking, but some of it like this cake stand (the green - ack!), this wee bowl or this cake stand is calling my name. Mind you, I have been known to make some dodgy calls when pregnant, so I'll be keeping any bidding local and inexpensive. Especially since I found out that to ship one of those lovelies from the US to Australia would cost around $30! Ouch!

You were so right about that song!
It jumped into my head the moment I read the title of your post!

I'm with you on the green cakestand. So glad you didn't link to a listing!!!

I also love the milk glass. but it is very heavy when shipping or mailing. I ordered some bowls to go with that bubble bowl. It cost so much and I stopped going to ebay. But I will say that they wear like iron and never brake. Its off to swapmeets or garage sales for that.

Love the white cakestand! And I think my grandmother had those bowls at one time.

Lola is beautiful!

Having a child named Lola means that song gets stuck in my head often. Very often. There's also the song by the Kinks which Lola herself is partial to and has been known to randomly belt out. At some point she'll understand it's about a transvestite and be horrified. Personally, my favorite Lola song is from "Damn Yankees." "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets, an little man, little Lola wants you..." And continuing in that devilish/vampish vein, there's the Lola song sung by Marlena Dietrich in Blue Angel. "Lola" is nearly always the vamp. Maybe if more people knew that it was the diminutive of Delores, that wouldn't be. Not that there's anything wrong with Delores as a name. It just doesn't carry any trace of the naughty vibe that Lola apparently does.

But I digress...

Lola and Coco are wonderful. Someday I hope there'll be a Lola an Astrid in giraffe form. How fabulous would that be? Pretty damn, I say. But then, I'm hardly impartial, am I? ;)

i love the monkeys their really cute

I LOVE those monkey ears. They look like they would hear real well! Even to the other side of the forest!

Such gorgeous sisters . . . and yep, all I can hear now is Barry!

Delurking to say

aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

I can't get it out of my head!

the green cake stand is gorgeous!! I think I'll be searching soon too... :)

Oh Lola is gorgeous- that dress!
And the green cake stand is gorgeous too- bid, bid, bid!

How do you get your toys to look sooo darn cute? Every one of them is adorable! Especially love the lining inside the ears.

I love your black cats, but coco is wonderful with her dress and pon pon!
Bravissima!

loving lola..she reminds me of my own 3 year old showgirl' the ceramics are nice, they remind me a little of a vintage version of bison ceramics. I have some bison milk jugs and a cake stand in the milk and green tea finish. really nice. It is an Australian company too.
