in the blue corner...

This is our progress on the new bedroom for Audrey & the wee chap. I should say Matt's progress as he's the one who has done most of the work. I'm loving the colour. So aside from some paintwork on the architraves, now it's time for the fun decorating part. I need to get cracking with some cushions, and of course Audrey's quilt. I'm considering ordering some of these alphabet cards from Mahar Drygoods for the walls. Plus, if the budget allows (probably not, but dreaming is good), I'm thinking a lamp like the giraffe one here.

While we're in fantasty decorating land, I've stashed some of this Alexander Henry 2d-Zoo fabric for a quilt for the baby (I say fantasty because it could be some time before this one is done). I was inspired by this (scroll down - it's the pink quilt with the red binding) on the purl bee a while back, so I'm hoping it will work to 'just' hand quilt around the larger animals & shapes. Seriously though, I feel like the combined forces of pregnancy and hot weather are impairing my ability to make a half decent decision about anything, so if anyone thinks that the hand quilting plan will ruin an otherwise lovely piece of fabric, um, tell it to me straight!

I don't know squat about hand quilting, but I do know that those quilts are going to be lovely and the room will be awesome! I can't wait to see it. Great ideas! Want to decorate my house??

I think it's a brilliant idea. My suggestion so you don't end up quilting around everything, would be to pick an animal, let's say the Alligator up there, and quilt all the alligators. Then pick another animal, the hippo, and stitch all the hippos, and then pick a third animal, a fourth, etc, until it's quilted to your liking. randomly picking which to stitch will be so much harder!

Yup, I agree with Chelsea, and I think that's a perfect print to make that style of quilt. Have fun, enjoy the process!

You couldn't ruin a beautiful piece of fabric if you tried.
That said, I think Chelsea's idea is a good one!

The AH fabric is wonderful - the colours and shapes are fantastic. I can't wait to see the kids room when it's all finished.

I am such a big fan of your website which I only found recently! I can't believe I have missed if for so long! I think it will look lovely, but just be careful with your hands. I got such bad carple tunnel towards the end of my pregancy I couldn't sew by hand the last two months. The website is lovely and I am a regular viewer now!

I love that fabric, in fact, it is the main fabric in a quilt I am making (slowly) for my son. I love your idea of not cutting into it. Very inspired!

Oh, this is going to be wonderful. You have chosen some of my absolute favourite things for this room! Yes, please get the cards, because I don't have space for them in my children's room, and then I can vicariously enjoy them.

Our boys have one of the elephant night lights in their bathroom. It is gorgeous. Certainly the most stylish night light I've ever seen. The giraffe one is equally cute.

Completely agree with Chelsea. I just finished quilting a small quilt and just kept going until I thought it was enough. And that's the perfect fabric for just quilting.
