thwarted!

Hbgarland
We had one of those visits to Ikea today. You know the kind, where everything you go there for is unavailable? I wanted to pick up some trestle legs for a desk for my new work room - they were out of stock. We had also planned to pick up a couple of blinds for some glass doors in our lounge room - again, out of stock.

I'd also hoped to pick up some of their excellently priced linen so I could make an advent stocking garland. I liked the linen in the ones above (from the most recent home beautiful), and have also been inspired at past christmases by the ones made by Stephanie and Amanda. But, um yes, the linen? Discontinued. Bummer. Better luck next time, eh?

Do you know you can check stock on the website before you go ?

We've put off visits before if there's 'not enough' of the things we want, or the 'main ticket item' for visiting isn't there...

But being IKEA, you came homw with SOMETHING, right ? ;)

Is it just Adelaide Ikea that is like this? I often have this problem too.(I almost cried when I found out about the linen!) I'm always torn between being upset and just being grateful that we have an Ikea here in Adelaide. My new motto for fabric at Ikea is, if you see it, buy it. Straight away. All of it. Don't hesitate. What am I saying? That's always been my motto for fabric purchases!

I have had many of those Ikea visits. They drive me mad.

And I had a load of that Ikea linen and it was great, but it's nearly gone now. I had planned on getting some more, but it looks like I won't be.

Baaaaaahhhhhh! The linen!
I went there yesterday for more of it and there was none.....
sniff*
I'm gonna pillage the melbourne one when I get over there......

xx

h&b - thankyou! i had no idea you could check stock before leaving the house, will definitley be trying that next time. Oh, and of course we left with stuff (drinking glasses and a construction set for a young friend)- it's just not cricket to walk out empty handed is it? :)

I've been trying to buy those damn trestle legs too! I dilly-dallied, hemmed and hawed, considered, contemplated, and all a manner of other things for a year as to whether to get those trestles. A year!. And every time I went to Ikea they were there to be considered. Until I decided to buy them. Then they were most definitely not there. And have continued not to be there for six months. Six months! The last time I spoke to an Ikea saleperson about them, she said to call before I came (sometimes they're online stock lists are not accurate) and to drop everything if I was told they had some. She said they sell out quickly (I'd noticed) and that their manufacturer was having a difficult time keeping up with demand. I don't know if that's just in the States or worldwide, but there you go.

Oh, Ikea. Why must you taunt us so?

If you want a supplier of a natural linen/cotton blend, please email me. I get my linen from a wholesaler in Melbourne. It's Italian linen and no doubt more expensive than ikea. But definitely very lovely - perfect for advent stockings and softies.
Not wanting to rub it in since they were out of stock, those trestle legs are definitely worth going back for. I use them for my patternmaking table and have them on the highest setting - it saves my back from bending over.

All of my trips to IKEA turn out like that. I have to plan ahead for the return trips I know I'll need to make to get everything on my list. They make us call for stock checks in the US. Now you have me wanting to check for linen at mine. Probably not the best season for that here...

you can order kits from the company who made the advent stockings. they are called flora and ceres www.floraandceres.com.au. They are based in Ceres just out of Geelong. they do mail order.

Oh, I so relate. Ikea drives us bonkers. Took a whole week off a few months ago to do an ikea project. Got absolutely nowhere. What's with that??
