I've been feeling far too domesticated lately. Which is sad, because I'm a domestic kinda woman. I love the baking, the home decorating, the sewing, the nurturing of the small folk. But lately I've allowed myself to let the not-so-great parts of this domestic based time in my life to get me down - the constant cleaning, the caring for sick kids, the juggling everybody's needs, the groundhog-day stuff.
So, in aid of finding some perspective, I thought I might post about a couple of domestic-related things that are making me happy at the moment.
1. I made marmalade from a whole lot of excess grapefruit we had. From this Nigella recipe (scroll down). Thanks to Charlotte for the idea - when I googled for grapefruit ideas, I came across her post about grapefruit marmalade and ricotta. Oh, how I love the internet.
2. I recently started a tumblelog of houses/home decoration that inspires me. I love that images on tumblr can be tagged (Did you know that? I didn't!) - so this is the perfect way to group all of that house related eye-candy. If only my magazine collection (about half of it above, currently being sorted through) was so compact and easily accessible.

I nearly leapt out of my chair in the effort to get to your tumblelog. With good reason too, I love your style and not surprisingly, I love every one of your images.
xx

Mmmmm, grapefruit marmalade sounds great! Do you have a grapefruit tree?
I have made orange marmalade before and it was yummy. The sugar in mine kinda crystallized a bit so it was... um... a bit crunchy. Still tasty.

I've tried that recipe and its yummy! Try orange and ginger marmalade using big sweet oranges. It's my favourite!

I love the idea of collecting home pics that you like all in one place. Thanks for the tip.

i'm really scared to go there.....I have folders on my desktop with images for house/interior inspiration. "mirrors" "kitchens" "bedrooms".
OK...here I go..and so much for an early night.
When you are feeling at your lowest domestic point....it will change.
hope you are well.

Storing your magazines... I have just moved and discovered just how many cooking magazines I do have. It seems that it might be close to the number that you have.
I don't want to keep them in a box. Any suggestions for how to store them or how you sort your magazines?

Cheer up!! Domestic chores may get you down, but look on the bright side! Once the kids are well & the house is clean, everything brightens up!!

Ah! I just got here via your tumblog, though I'm not sure how i got *there*.
You have lovely taste. I'm going to try not to reblog each pic as it comes along, but that will take restraint.

There are absolute moments (like this very instant) where I am taken by the want/need to be incredibly domestic. It's as if I channel Laura Ingels through my very soul!
