Last Wednesday afternoon, just as I was walking out the door to do the school pick-up, there it was on the front porch - a parcel containing advance copies of my book. Gulp.
I should tell you that the opportunity to write this book (a dream job for me, if ever there was one) came at a pretty unfortunate time, with my Mum seriously ill, and 86 year old grandmother suffering not 1 but 2 bad falls and subsequent hospital stints over the 7 or so months that I had to write it. To top it all off, Audrey had pneumonia for 6 the weeks of the Christmas break. It was a complicated time for our little family, to say the least.
So, out of that time, to hold an actual book in my hands now is kind of spesh, you know?
The folk at Penguin have done a really beautiful job putting it together. It's bound in a hard-back, gatefold-type arrangement, with full size patterns in a pocket at the back. There's a variety of toy projects for different skill-levels, and a ton of information about scourcing environmentally-frendly fabric to make them. It will be in stores October 31st, but you can pre-order now at Readings or Fishpond.
Eeep!!
